Originality & Innovation

Original work created by the candidate and doable by the child independently.
Project must be the child’s idea 100%.

Problem-Solving

Solve real-world problems.
Address an existing community problem not yet fully addressed.
Address an already-solved problem with reduced running cost.
Simplify a complex solution, or provide a novel solution.

Functionality

Prototypes or models that work.

Presentation

Present the project and answer judges’ questions.
Explainable using simple charts.
Identify an industry that can benefit.
Set up exhibition posters at the Grand Finale venue.
Send concepts to JOS STEM for approval before building; send intermittent progress reports.

Assessment / Scoring

Project account for 5 marks overall.
Top four finalists explain projects & answer judges — 2 marks.
1 mark from audience appraisal.
2 marks at the poster stands general exhibition.
